Photography as a measurement tool for science
In science there is data and measurement, but for plant research you also benefit a lot from photos.
Scientific photography is the use of photos to collect scientific data and imagery for scientific research and applied sciences. While scientific photos can produce beautiful shots of the natural world, their main purpose is to record accurate images and share them with others to move science forward. I established over the years a systematic photographic monitoring protocol to capture differences between genetics and other growth parameters in order to create a tangible trace in your data.
With WUR students we even used photography as a tool to mesaure accuratly the coloration pigment of lettuce using advanced data analysis.
